Mauritania, located in Northern Africa, is officially known as the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. The economy of Mauritania is completely dependant on iron ore from the mines. The country has rich deposits of iron ore, which is responsible for generating around fifty-percent of total export revenues. Agriculture is also a significant industry and equally important towards the economy of Mauritania. About 50% of the workforce is engaged in farming or pasturing livestock. Main agricultural products are dates, millet, rice, sorghum and corn. Main industries are mining of iron ore and gypsum and fish processing. |
